Delcrys - world map

Delcrys

A continent, where three kingdoms constantly compete for political and economic power. Located in the east Yorevale is famous for its universities and enlightened lifestyle. Lying in the south Sambria is a naval power that profits from the exploitation of overseas lands. And finally occupying the north-eastern outskirts of the continent Untermarch is famous for its disciplined army and cruel habits.

Orrey

“It was a poison! He was poisoned!” – gossiped the inhabitants of this largest city in Yorevale after the death of king Owen. When none of the authorities even addressed those accusations, people realised that the dark times were coming.

Today, hardly anybody trusts the city’s elites, who in common opinion only chase after their profit. For them the upcoming election of a new ruler seems to be just an opportunity to stuff their purses and gain new influence.

Guinne Camp

Only the best among the soldiers of Yorevale watch the guard at the Guinne Camp towers. Days and nights, they look out for invaders from Untermarch, who try to pass another attack on their homeland. And although, lately, there are much more merchants than warriors passing through the gigantic gates of Guinne Camp, the elite archers stationed here, keep their arrows aimed at anyone who approaches the city from the east.

Crossroads Inn

You will remember your visit in this place for many years. Here, one can meet the worst bandits of Yorevale ready to kill for a handful of centimes, as well as peasants who drown their worries in alcohol and merchants from distant exotic countries seeking refuge during their travels. The clientele of the tavern is as diverse as the Delcrys itself – and as Delcrys itself, unpredictable. Little is known of its owner – Martyn Bradver. People say, that he appeared one day out of the middle of nowhere with a small child in care and took over a declining tavern from the previous tavern keeper. After many years, he continues to run this place, providing accommodation and food to anyone who has gulden to pay for it.

Rockburrys Wineyard

For the very long time Rockburry has forced Yorevale innkeepers to serve only the alcohol from his vineyard. Any attempt to avoid his dictation involves severe financial penalties. Everyone wonders who the hell gave him the right to enforce such a monopoly? People are no longer able to drink this piss. Perhaps the time has come to put an end to it and bring some decent beverage to Crossroads?

Untermarch Mines

It has been known for a long time that the northern Untermarch has great untapped economic potential. When it comes to minerals and raw materials this region is one of the most opulent among the lands of Delcrys. However the extraction is limited for the rulers of Untermarch as always choose to focus their attention on the next attempt to conquer eastern part of Yorevale. Nonetheless in recent years this picture has changed. The leaders of the northern clans are increasingly aware that the extraction and sale of raw materials are much safer and effective way to earn money than consecutive wars.

Gambetta

Colorful, dancing and full of life Gambetta shows the entire diversity of the republic of Sambria. It’s the hometown of countess Ellisa – the last concubine of king Owen. Her enemies claim that she was involved in prostitution in one of Gambettas most exclusive public houses. Are those accusations true? Only her husband, count Devon, who at the time was often visiting the city on business trips could say. Could – but unfortunately died few years ago, leaving his fortune to his younger wife and thus opening her way to the court of Yorevale, where the ambitious countess fights for influence and power.

Dramatis Personae - characters

Martyn Bradver

Martyn is a former soldier of the Yorevale army. He fought many wars at the side of king Owen, becoming one of his most trusted servants and friend. When the royal children died in mysterious circumstances, he was entrusted with a special mission. He was to take the last living – although born out-of-wedlock – child of the king and look after him until he comes out of age as an innkeeper in small town of Crossroads.

Today, when this moment finally came, Martyn has a new mission – to do everything in his power to make the royal descendant regain his inheritance and reach for his father’s crown.

Young Innkeeper

Nobody knows where he comes from and who his real parents are. People of Crossroads say that old innkeeper Martyn found him wandering the streets of one of the towns in the eastern Yorevale. Took care of him and treated as his own.

The tavern is his whole life. Stories of travellers, sad tales of regulars spilled over mug of beer and evening craziness of the local youth formed his identity from an early age. That’s why in the noisy bustling hustle of an Inn, he feels like a fish in the water. Dreaming of a simple life on the edge of a provincial town, he does not realize that his true fate is going to be something completely different.

King Owen

Recent king of Yorevale who died poisoned. Under his rule the country experienced the greatest heyday in its history. Proficient both in the management of the state and conducting warfare, he was able to repel the last invasion of Untermarch and start an effective policy of quarreling its elites.

The only weakness he showed was his over-faith in people, which led to a lack of discernment in their true intentions. Therefore, he did not have any awareness when a conspiracy of ambitious magnates was formed in his closest surroundings, who decided to remove his dynasty from power – no matter the cost.

Duke Artar of Rockburry

One of the main beneficiaries of political changes in Yorevale which happened after the death of king Owen. He wields a monopoly on wine trade across the country. The vineyards he manages produce the best wines in Yorevale, but also the worst ones.

That is because duke Rockburry stopped caring for their quality. Instead of running business, he became absorbed with new romances, sumptuous feasts and all other pleasures, that are easy to approach. Money and privileges have spoiled him so much that sometimes he does not leave his bedding for weeks and the days when he is sober and able to conduct a logical conversation happen no more.

Countess Ellisa Devon

Countess Ellisa’s past is shrouded in mystery. The only known thing about her is that she originates from sambrian Gambetta. The whole truth about her past was known only by her husband, count Devon, who made quite a few business travels to the South. This frivolous old bugger came back to Yorevale one day with a much younger sambrian beauty, and announced that she’s to become his new wife. Unfortunately, he died of hearth attack not long after the wedding, leaving her with a quite hefty inheritance. Soon after that, young countess found herself at a royal court in Orrey where she has began a merciless struggle for power.

She was successful more often than not. Some of the most distinguished courtiers dueled for her recognition. The rumor says that, for a time, she was even a mistress of king Oven. After his death, however, troubled times have started for Ellisa. The family of her late husband went after his inheritance by putting Ellisa’s noble birth in question. She will do anything to survive and her opponents have to be extremely careful with her. An old sambrian maxim says that a wounded wolf bites most viciously.
